Xianjie Zhu

Central Conservatory of Music, Piano Academy in Gulangyu

The career of Professor Xianjie Zhu is associated with the famous Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He studied in the Music School attached to Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1962. He worked as a pianist with the Shanghai Philharmonic Ensemble since 1972. He completed his master's degree in 1981 and started teaching piano at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music for six years, before moving to North America.

Professor Zhu performs as a soloist or with an orchestra like Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Xiamen Philharmonic Ensemble. As a chamber musician, he performed with artists from Europe and North America during some tours in Russia, and major festivals like the ‘Prague Festival’ in the Czech republic. He received excellent critics in San Francisco and New York, it was written about him, ‘an artist sensitive to the music, stylishly accurate.’

 He served on the faculty boards of Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Piano Academy in Gulangyu, and currently a Guest Professor at Xiamen University, China. Mr. Zhu is also the chairman of the Toronto Chinese Piano Teacher’s Association.

 As a music critic, he has published articles about piano music in multiple journals. He is the translator of the book ‘A Life in Music’ by D. Barenboim. He is a vice-chief editor of  the music journal ‘Piano Artistry.’ He is also the author of the book ‘Pan on the Keyboard.’
